April 14: Angolan Youth Day

Angolan Youth Day is observed in Angola every April 14. This holiday commemorates Hoji-ya-Henda, an Angolan national hero who was killed during the Portuguese Colonial War at the age of 27. He was a leader of the People's Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA) and died during a raid on the Portuguese Army's headquarters in Karipande. In March 1969, it was decided to celebrate the anniversary of his death as Angolan Youth Day, honoring his contributions and those of the youth in Angola's development. Although it is not a public holiday, various events are organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and multiple youth associations across the country to celebrate this occasion.
