April 16: Lawyers’ Day (Bulgaria)

Lawyers' Day is observed in Bulgaria every April 16, commemorating the anniversary of the adoption of the Tarnovo Constitution in 1876. This constitution was established by the Constituent National Assembly in Veliko Tarnovo and served as the fundamental law of Bulgaria until its abolition in 1947, when it was replaced by a less liberal document under the Communist regime. The day was previously celebrated on December 4 but was shifted to April 16 at the initiative of the Union of Lawyers, with the change approved by the Council of Ministers in December 2010. Lawyers' Day serves as a professional holiday for legal practitioners in Bulgaria, recognizing their contributions to the legal system and society.
