April 24: Concord Day (Niger)

Concord Day is observed in Niger every April 24 and is one of the twelve official public holidays recognized by the government. This day commemorates the peace accord signed on April 24, 1995, between the Government of Niger and the Organization of Armed Resistance, marking the beginning of the end of the 1990 Tuareg rebellion. Celebrations include political addresses by the President and government officials, as well as street festivals and cultural and educational events aimed at fostering national pride and cross-cultural peace among the youth. The holiday also acknowledges the end of the 2007-2009 Tuareg Rebellion, which has been celebrated since 2009. On this day, all government offices, educational institutions, and businesses are closed.
