National Flag Day is observed in Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, every April 25. This public holiday commemorates the first hoisting of the national flag on April 25, 1967, when King Sobhuza II took his oath of office. The flag, which was based on a military flag introduced by the king in 1941, features three horizontal stripes: blue for stability and peace, red for past battles, and yellow for the country's resources. At the center of the red stripe is a black and white shield, symbolizing protection and the peaceful coexistence of the black and white populations, flanked by two spears and a staff adorned with feather tassels, representing royal power. The flag was officially adopted on October 6, 1968, shortly after Eswatini gained independence from the United Kingdom.
