Border Guard Day is observed in Armenia every April 26, celebrating the contributions of the Armenian Border Guard to the country's national security. Established in 2007 by President Robert Kocharyan, the date commemorates the presentation of the draft of the National Border Act on April 26, 1994, which was enacted into law in 2001. The Armenian Border Guard, a branch of the Armenian Armed Forces created on January 28, 1992, originally operated under the Ministry of Defense but has been under the Ministry of National Security and Internal Affairs since 2004. This organization is responsible for monitoring and guarding Armenia's borders with Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and Iran, and works closely with a Russian military contingent based at the 102nd Military Base in Gyumri. The day serves to honor the dedication and service of border guards in maintaining the nation's security.
