National Dissertation Day is observed worldwide every April 26 to support and encourage doctoral candidates who are struggling with their dissertations. The day highlights the challenges faced by doctoral students and aims to promote a professional approach to completing their dissertations. It was initiated by Dr. Russel Strickland, a dissertation coach and founder of Dissertation Done, and has been celebrated since 2018. Participants are encouraged to take a moment to reevaluate their dissertation journey, seek help from advisors or fellow candidates, and continue their writing with renewed motivation. The day serves as a reminder of the significant effort and resources required to earn a doctoral degree, as only about half of candidates in the United States successfully complete their dissertations.
