The birthday of Princess Benedikte of Denmark is observed in Denmark every April 29. Born in 1944 to Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Ingrid during the Nazi occupation, she is the couple's second daughter, following her elder sister Princess Margrethe. Princess Benedikte became second in line to the throne after the 1953 Act of Succession allowed women to inherit. In 1968, she married Richard, 6th Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, and they have three children, who do not have the right to inherit the throne as they were raised outside Denmark. While her birthday is not widely celebrated outside the royal house, it remains a special day on the Danish calendar. Princess Benedikte is actively involved in scout and guide organizations both in Denmark and internationally, and she has a keen interest in equestrian sports.
