April 30: Teachers’ Day (Paraguay)

Teachers' Day in Paraguay, known as Día del Maestro, is celebrated every April 30. This day allows students and parents to express their gratitude and appreciation for teachers. The date was established during a national convention of Paraguayan teachers in 1915 and has been observed annually since then. Although it is not an official public holiday, it is widely celebrated in both state and private schools across the country. On this occasion, teachers often receive cards and small handmade gifts from their students, and many schools organize special events to honor them. The Ministry of Education and Culture also recognizes outstanding teachers for their innovative practices and contributions to the community. Historically, education in Paraguay was not highly valued, but significant changes began in 1992 with the adoption of a new constitution that increased funding for education, leading to improvements in curricula and teacher salaries.
