The Kentucky Oaks is an annual horse race held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, on the Friday before the Kentucky Derby. It features only three-year-old fillies and is recognized as one of the oldest continuously contested sporting events in the United States. The race was founded by Lewis Clark, Jr. in 1875 and is inspired by the British Epsom Oaks. The event attracts significant attendance, with over 50,000 people reported in the past. A trophy, typically made of sterling silver and 25 inches tall, is awarded to the winner, with the winner's name etched on it each year. The first winner to have her name inscribed on the trophy was Princess Doreen in 1924.
