May 8: Women’s Historic Night

Women’s Historic Night, known as Kvinnehistorisk natt, is observed in various cities and towns throughout Norway on May 8. This annual feminist campaign aims to combat male domination in the urban environment, highlighting the often-overlooked contributions of women to history, science, and culture. The event was first organized in 2006 by radical feminists from the University of Bergen and made its debut in Oslo in 2010. Participants create and display posters dedicated to inspiring women, including scientists, politicians, inventors, authors, and activists, around the city. Additionally, activists may rename monuments and streets after prominent women, striving to shift the focus from male achievements to those of women, at least for one night.
