National Mangrove Forest Day, also known as Wan Pa Chai Len Haeng Chat, is observed in Thailand every May 10. This day was established to emphasize the importance of mangrove forest conservation and to highlight ongoing conservation efforts. The date commemorates a speech made by King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1991, where he urged various departments to protect Thailand's mangrove ecosystems. Events and activities are organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and other stakeholders to promote the significance of mangrove ecosystems and to foster a network for conservation efforts. Thailand's mangrove forests, part of the Indochina mangrove ecoregion, face significant degradation due to commercial fishing, shrimp aquaculture, and unregulated tourism. In response, community-based mangrove restoration laws have been enacted, allowing local governments to manage conservation efforts flexibly. Notably, the first mangrove botanical garden in Thailand was established in Chanthaburi province in 2018 to serve as a center for learning and research on mangrove conservation.
