Nickel Day is observed on May 16 and celebrates the significance of the nickel, a five-cent coin that plays a vital role in everyday transactions. This day encourages people to recognize the importance of nickel not only as currency but also as a crucial metal in various industries, including construction and technology. Common customs include starting a Nickel Savings Challenge, where participants save increasing amounts of nickels each day, and visiting science museums to learn about nickel's applications. Additionally, individuals can create art using nickels or prepare meals featuring nickel-rich foods. The day serves as a reminder of how an often-overlooked material contributes to daily life and modern technology.
