Scouts’ Day is observed in Croatia every May 19 to commemorate the first training of Croatian Scouts following the lifting of a ban on Scouting after World War II. The Scouting Movement in Croatia began in the early 20th century, with the first units established between 1913 and 1918 in towns such as Mali Lošinj, Opatija, Pula, and Rijeka. After a series of bans, the first training camp for Scouts and pioneers was held in Zagreb in 1950, marking the significance of this date. The Scout Association of Croatia, which split from the Scout Association of Yugoslavia in 1991, has since embraced the principles of youth education inspired by Robert Baden-Powell. Croatian Scouts, now full members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, participate in various regional and international events, proudly using the red and white Croatian checkerboard pattern on their emblems.
