National Craft Distillery Day is observed in the United States every year on May 22. This holiday celebrates craft distilleries, which are small, independently owned distilleries that produce spirits in limited quantities, typically less than 750,000 gallons annually. The day was established in 2019 by N Scott Distillery in Las Vegas to commemorate its founding anniversary and aims to recognize the growing craft distillery movement while popularizing handcrafted spirits. On this day, craft distilleries across the country often unveil new products and offer various promotions. The modern craft distilling movement emerged from the microbrewing trend that began in the UK and spread to the US in the 1970s, leading to increased interest and experimentation in spirit production. Despite facing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of microdistilleries in the US has grown significantly, from 50 in 2005 to over 2,000 by 2019.
