Day of Arafah

The Day of Arafah, also known as the Day of Repentance, is observed worldwide on the ninth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, occurring every year. This significant Islamic festival marks the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates the final sermon delivered by the Prophet Muhammad in his last year of life. On this day, Muslims are encouraged to fast, repent for their sins, and seek forgiveness from Allah. At dawn, pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat, a granite hill east of Mecca, where they spend the day in prayer and reflection, asking for personal strength to abstain from sins. Being present at the Plain of Arafat is essential for the validity of the Hajj, as it is considered the essence of the pilgrimage. The Day of Arafah precedes Eid al-Adha, the major Islamic holiday known as the Greater Eid.
