May 28: Community Police Officer Day (Ukraine)

Community Police Officer Day is observed in Ukraine every May 28 to commemorate the launch of the Community Police Officer Project and to highlight the role of community police officers in enhancing safety and order within their communities. This observance began in 2019, following the project's initiation by the National Police of Ukraine in 2018, with support from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Cabinet of Ministers. Community police officers are integral members of their respective territorial communities, responsible for preventing crime, resolving conflicts, and engaging with residents through various initiatives. As of April 2023, there are 1,298 community police officers serving in 658 territorial communities across 23 regions of Ukraine. On this day, community police officers who have excelled in their duties over the past year receive various awards, recognizing their contributions to local safety and community engagement.
