June 1: Day Without Alcohol

Day Without Alcohol (Dzień bez Alkoholu) is observed in Poland every June 1. Established by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland on May 24, 2006, this official observance aims to highlight the issues of alcoholism and its impact on individuals and families. The date coincides with the first day of summer and aligns with the International Day for Protection of Children, emphasizing the adverse effects of alcohol abuse on children. The observance seeks to promote abstinence from alcohol, acknowledging that children of alcoholic parents often face emotional challenges due to neglect and domestic violence. In addition to Day Without Alcohol, Poland also observes National Sobriety Day on the Monday before Easter and the Week of Prayers for the Sobriety of the Nation, which starts on the last Sunday before Ash Wednesday.
