Drug Control Agency Employees Day is observed in Tajikistan every June 1 to highlight the role of the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan in combating illicit drug trafficking. This observance was officially recognized in 2022 and occurs on a working day unless it falls on a weekend. The day commemorates the establishment of the Drug Control Agency, which was reorganized from the State Commission on Drug Control in 1999. Tajikistan, sharing a 1,400-kilometer border with Afghanistan, faces significant challenges related to drug trafficking, particularly heroin and cannabis, due to its geographical location near the Golden Crescent. The Agency collaborates with various authorities to implement anti-drug legislation and prevent drug abuse. Additionally, Tajikistan is a member of the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center for Combating Illicit Trafficking, which promotes cooperation among regional drug control agencies.
