The date marks the creation of the first aviation group in Azerbaijan on June 2, 1938. This professional holiday was officially established by a Presidential Decree from Ilham Aliyev on May 18, 2006. On this day, the contributions of workers in the civil aviation sector are recognized and celebrated. Azerbaijan Hava Yollari, the state-owned flag carrier and largest airline, plays a significant role in the country's aviation industry, which includes the management of several airports such as Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku and others in Ganja, Nakhchivan, Zagatala, Lankaran, Yevlakh, and Zabrat. The holiday serves to honor the development and importance of civil aviation in Azerbaijan's transportation and tourism sectors.
