Battle of Arica Day is observed in the Arica y Parinacota Region of Chile every June 7. This day commemorates the Battle of Arica, an important conflict in the War of the Pacific that resulted in a Chilean victory and concluded the Campaign of Tacna and Arica. The battle took place after Chilean forces had already defeated the Peru-Bolivian alliance at the Battle of Tacna. On June 7, Chilean infantry launched a frontal assault on the city of Arica, capturing the port and marking a significant turning point in the war. Although not an official observance, it is widely commemorated in the region, and the Chilean Army celebrates it as Infantry Day to honor the heroism of the infantrymen involved. The anniversary is also recognized in Peru as Flag Day.
