Rizal Province Day, observed in the Philippines, recurs every June 11 and is a special non-working holiday celebrating the founding anniversary of Rizal Province. Located in the Calabarzon region on the island of Luzon, approximately 10 miles east of Manila, the province was named after José Rizal, a prominent Filipino nationalist. The territory was originally part of the provinces of Tondo and Laguna before being established as a separate province in 1901, combining municipalities from Morong and the old Province of Manila. Notably, the district of Morong played a significant role during the Philippine Revolution, contributing to the symbolism of the Philippine flag, which features a sun with eight rays representing provinces involved in the revolution. The province was also active during World War II, with guerrilla movements resisting Japanese occupation. Rizal Province Day is distinct from José Rizal’s birthday on June 19 and Rizal Day on December 30, which commemorates his death anniversary.
