Medical Worker’s Day is observed in Azerbaijan every June 17, celebrating the contributions of medical professionals in the country. The holiday was officially established in 2001 by President Heydar Aliyev to honor the founding anniversary of Azerbaijan's first Ministry of Healthcare, which was created on June 17, 1918. The day is marked by various events such as concerts and award ceremonies in medical institutions, recognizing the hard work of healthcare workers. Despite the festivities, many medical workers are unable to attend due to their responsibilities, making expressions of gratitude from patients and their families a meaningful gesture. Azerbaijan's healthcare system has evolved significantly since its inception, now comprising approximately 750 hospitals and 1,670 outpatient clinics, employing over 28,000 doctors and nearly 56,000 other medical staff. The Nariman Narimanov Azerbaijan Medical University in Baku is a key institution for training medical professionals in the country.
