June 20: Flag Day (Argentina)

National Flag Day in Argentina is observed every June 20 to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Manuel Belgrano, the creator of the national flag. The flag, a triband of light blue and white with the Sun of May in the center, was first raised in Rosario during the Argentine War of Independence on February 27, 1812. Officially declared the national flag by the Congress of Tucumán in 1816, the Sun of May was added in 1818. The holiday was first celebrated in 1938 and includes a main celebration at the National Flag Memorial in Rosario, featuring public meetings, solemn speeches, and parades. Similar events take place in other cities across Argentina, honoring Belgrano's legacy and the national symbol he designed.
