Mixed Race Day is observed in Brazil on June 27 every year, honoring citizens of multi-ethnic origins. The date was chosen to commemorate the 27 mixed-race representatives elected during the First Conference for the Promotion of Racial Equality in Manaus in April 2005, and it also marks the First National Conference for the Promotion of Racial Equality held in Brasília in June 2005. The celebration recognizes the significant multiracial population in Brazil, with over 43% of Brazilians identifying as multiracial according to the 2013 census. The event was first established in Manaus in January 2006 and has since spread to other Brazilian cities and states. Brazilian society is characterized by a blend of ethnicities, primarily from Amerindians, Europeans, Africans, and Asians, with mixed-race individuals commonly referred to as Pardos.
