The day was officially declared in 2006 to honor his contributions and celebrate the achievements of Indian statisticians. On this occasion, various government agencies, educational institutions, and organizations host seminars, conferences, discussions, and contests to engage statisticians and the general public. Since 2009, each celebration has featured a specific theme, focusing on topics such as social development, gender statistics, and sustainable development. The first celebration took place in 2007, marking a significant recognition of the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and everyday life.
