July 1: Engineer’s Day (Mexico)

Engineer’s Day is observed in Mexico every July 1 to celebrate the contributions of engineers and engineering students. Established in 1973, the holiday commemorates the anniversary of the Royal Proclamation that created the Real Court of Mining in 1776, which led to the founding of the Royal School of Mines, where the first engineering curriculum was developed. The idea to honor engineers originated in 1972 from Eugenio Mendez Docurro, a Mexican politician and engineer who was then the Secretary of Communication and Transportation. On this day, people recognize the efforts of those who work to make processes safer and more efficient, and it is customary to extend congratulations to engineers.
