Jan Hus Day is observed in the Czech Republic every July 6 to commemorate the death of the religious reformer Jan Hus, who was executed in 1415. Born in 1369 in Husinec, Bohemia, Hus became a priest and preached in Prague, advocating for Church reform influenced by John Wycliffe's writings. His execution, where he was burned at the stake along with his writings, had significant repercussions, leading to widespread rebellion against the Roman Catholic Church in Europe. Although the reformation he sought was not realized, he is honored in the Czech Republic as a symbol of Czech identity and a linguist.
