World Rural Development Day is observed worldwide every July 6, highlighting the importance of strengthening rural communities by reducing poverty, improving food security, promoting economic growth, and addressing climate change. Established by the UN General Assembly in 2024, the date marks the anniversary of the founding of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) in 1979. This observance aims to connect various stakeholders, including governments, UN agencies, local communities, and civil society organizations, to promote sustainable rural development through the sharing of successful policies and practices. It recognizes that rural development extends beyond agriculture to include healthcare, education, transportation, clean water, renewable energy, and environmental conservation.
