The Day of Tax Office Workers is observed in Belarus every second Sunday of July. Established in 1998 by President Alexander Lukashenko, this professional holiday recognizes the contributions of individuals involved in the country's fiscal policy, which is managed by the Tax and Duties Ministry. The origins of the ministry trace back to April 1990 when it was first formed as the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Finance of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it evolved into the Main State Tax Inspectorate and later became the State Tax Committee before finally being restructured into the Tax and Duties Ministry in 2001. The holiday serves to honor the work of over 150 tax inspections across Belarus, although it typically falls on a weekend when most professional holidays are considered working days.
