Hijab and Chastity Day is observed in Iran on July 12 every year, corresponding to the 21st day of Tir in the Solar Hijri calendar. This holiday emphasizes the significance of hijab in the lives of Iranian women. The tradition of veiling dates back to pre-Islamic times in Iran, but it became obligatory after the Iranian Revolution of 1978-1979, when many women began to wear hijab voluntarily. In 1983, the law mandated that all women must observe hijab in public, with the definition of proper hijab evolving over time. Today, the holiday serves as a cultural observance, reinforcing the dress code that requires women to cover their bodies, except for their faces, hands up to the wrists, and feet.
