Gergetoba, also known as the Day of Spiritual Love, is observed in Georgia every July 16. This Christian holiday celebrates the concept of Christian love and is traditionally held at the Gergeti Trinity Church, a 14th-century structure that was once restricted from religious services during the Soviet regime. The holiday was revived by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, who conducted a solemn liturgy at the church in 1980, marking the resumption of its celebration. Gergetoba is distinct from the secular Day of Love celebrated on April 15, which focuses on romantic love between individuals and was initiated by Georgian showbiz-maker Besik Chubinidze with parliamentary support. The observance of Gergetoba highlights the significance of spiritual love in the Christian faith within the Georgian cultural context.
