July 16: DRESS Syndrome Day

National DRESS Syndrome Day is observed worldwide every July 16 to highlight a rare and potentially life-threatening reaction to certain medications known as DRESS, which stands for “drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms.” This syndrome can lead to severe symptoms such as skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and blood abnormalities, often caused by more than 50 different medications, particularly anticonvulsants and antibiotics. The day was launched in 2021 by the DRESS Syndrome Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about DRESS syndrome and supporting affected patients. Activities on this day include sharing information about the condition through social media using hashtags like #NationalDRESSSyndromeDay and #DRESSAware, as well as encouraging donations to organizations that support research and patient care.
