National Urban Beekeeping Day is observed worldwide every July 19 to celebrate and promote the practice of urban beekeeping. This holiday highlights the benefits of keeping bees in cities, such as enhancing biodiversity and providing locally produced honey. Urban beekeeping, which has gained popularity since the 2000s, allows city dwellers to connect with nature and helps combat the decline in bee populations. The day was launched in December 2019 by Detroit Hives, a nonprofit organization focused on creating pollinator-friendly spaces in Detroit. Participants can engage by visiting local urban apiaries, supporting beekeepers, and sharing their experiences on social media using the hashtags #NationalUrbanBeekeepingDay and #UrbanBeekeepingDay. Notable cities with active urban beekeeping communities include New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto, and London, among others.
