Farmer's Day, known locally as Nane Nane, is observed in Tanzania every August 8. This holiday celebrates the vital role of farmers and agriculture in the Tanzanian economy, which heavily relies on agricultural products that account for approximately 25.5% of the gross domestic product, with 85% of these products exported. The main crops include maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, beans, bananas, rice, millet, sugar, cotton, cashew nuts, coffee, sisal, and tea, along with livestock such as beef, lamb, chicken, and pork. One of the key events during Nane Nane is an agricultural exhibition held for a week around this date in various cities, where agricultural stakeholders and farmers showcase new technologies, discoveries, and ideas related to the agricultural sector. Government and private firms also participate by exhibiting their services and activities to the public.
