Signal and Cyber Security Forces Day is observed in Ukraine every August 8. This professional holiday was established by President Leonid Kuchma in 2000 and was renamed in 2022, just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The date is significant as it marks the training commencement of the first Ukrainian signalmen at the Kyiv Engineering Courses in 1920. The Signal Forces played crucial roles during World War II, the War in Afghanistan, and the management of the Chernobyl disaster. Following Ukraine's independence in 1991, the Signal and Cyber Security Forces evolved, becoming a separate military branch in January 2022 after a reorganization aligned with NATO standards. Their primary responsibilities include ensuring the functionality and expansion of communication and information systems, as well as implementing measures for national cyber security.
