Children’s Day in Chile is celebrated on the second Sunday in August, although it is officially recognized on the first Wednesday of October. This holiday is popular among the Chilean population and is a day for parents to purchase toys for their children. The date was chosen in collaboration with the Argentinian toy industry to promote toy sales before the Christmas season. While Children’s Day was established as a UN observance in 1950, celebrated worldwide on June 1, the Chilean version has become more commercialized and is distinct from the International Day for Protection of Children. Despite its origins, the day is cherished by children and their families in Chile.
