Acejump

A- or Ace- (Orientation), Asexual Spectrum, LGBTQ-alphabet, Sexual Orientation and Attraction

Ace-jump is an orientation where an individual typically experiences allosexual attraction but occasionally has sudden and intense spikes of complete or near-complete asexuality. These periods of asexuality are brief, and the person returns to their usual allosexual state just as suddenly. It is considered the opposite of acespike. The romantic counterpart to acejump is known as arojump.

Jordan identifies as ace-jump, usually feeling sexual attraction regularly like most allosexual individuals. However, there are rare moments when Jordan suddenly shifts into a state of total asexuality, lasting anywhere from a few hours to a day. One evening, while on a date, Jordan felt the familiar excitement of connection and attraction. But suddenly, without warning, those feelings vanished completely, replaced by an absence of sexual interest. Confused, Jordan apologized and explained, “Sometimes I just switch off for a bit; it’s like flipping a switch.” By the next day, Jordan was back to experiencing their typical level of allosexual attraction as if nothing had changed. These jumps can be disorienting, but understanding their identity as acejump has helped Jordan recognize and accept this aspect of themselves. Embracing the ace-jump label allowed them to navigate relationships with honesty, setting expectations with partners and finding comfort in knowing this cycle is part of who they are. This identity offers Jordan the language and validation to express why these sudden shifts occur, fostering better communication and self-understanding.
