Aegosexual, sometimes called autochorissexual, is a sexual orientation where a person feels attraction that is separate from their own involvement. People who identify as aegosexual may experience arousal or sexual fantasies, but these fantasies do not include themselves as participants. Instead, attraction is directed at others or at imagined situations, often from a third person perspective.
The label is part of the asexual spectrum because it highlights the difference between sexual arousal and the desire to engage in sexual activity. Aegosexual individuals can enjoy erotica, pornography, or sexual storylines, but without wanting to take part in them. This distinction helps explain experiences where attraction is present, but personal participation is absent.
The term was first described by psychologist Anthony Bogaert under the name autochorissexuality, meaning “identity less sexuality.” Later, members of the online LGBTQIA+ community proposed aegosexual as an alternative word, since it felt clearer and more affirming. It continues to be used by people who want to describe attraction that does not involve themselves.
Eli often watched movies with sexual content and found them exciting. They could even describe in detail what they enjoyed about the characters and situations.
