The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is an annual hot air balloon festival that takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during the first full week of October. The event spans nine days, beginning on a Saturday, and features around 600 balloons and 700 pilots, making it the largest balloon event in the world. Initially started in 1972 with just 13 balloons, the fiesta has grown significantly, now attracting up to 100,000 spectators on-site and many more watching from afar. The festival includes various events such as Mass Ascensions, the annual Balloon Glow, and the Night Magic Glowâ„¢, showcasing the colorful balloons in flight and illuminated at night. It is recognized as the most photographed event globally and is the largest annual international event held in the United States. The venue has expanded from a mall parking lot to a permanent site of over 350 acres to accommodate the increasing number of participants and attendees.
