National Broadcasting Day (Hari Penyiaran Nasional) is observed in Indonesia every April 1 to celebrate the country's broadcasters and commemorate the establishment of the first Indonesian radio station in 1933. The day marks the anniversary of Solosche Radio Vereeniging (SRV), the first Indonesian-owned broadcasting institution, which began broadcasting on this date. The holiday was officially recognized in 2019 following a presidential decree by President Joko Widodo, after being proposed by Hari Wiryawan of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) in 2010. The KPI coordinates the celebrations, which may be held in different provinces each year and can be rescheduled if they coincide with Ramadan. In addition to National Broadcasting Day, Indonesia also observes Television Day on August 24 and National Radio Day on September 11, which honor the establishment of TVRI and the takeover of Japanese radio stations, respectively.
