Unfairly Prosecuted Persons Day (Deň nespravodlivo stíhaných) is observed in Slovakia every April 13. This remembrance day commemorates the dissolution of male monasteries during the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia, specifically following the events of April 13/14, 1950, known as the Barbarian Night, when armed state police stormed 56 male monasteries, arresting the monks and priests inside. The day honors those who suffered under the Communist regime, particularly the over 2,000 individuals sent to internment camps. Although it falls on a working day, it is marked by commemorative events across the country. The day serves as a reminder of the ideological purges that took place after the 1948 coup led by Klement Gottwald and the subsequent repression of religious institutions.
