Anfal Genocide Memorial Day is observed in Iraqi Kurdistan on April 14 every year. This official remembrance day honors the victims of the genocide committed during Saddam Hussein's rule, particularly during the Al-Anfal campaign from 1985 to 1988. The campaign, which included chemical warfare, mass deportations, and the destruction of villages, resulted in the deaths of between 50,000 and 182,000 Kurds and the eradication of approximately 4,000 villages. Additionally, around 2,000 Assyrian Christians were victims of chemical attacks. Established by the Kurdistan Regional Government in 2007, the day is marked by solemn ceremonies throughout Iraqi Kurdistan, reflecting on the tragic impact of these events on the region's population.
