Tajik Science Day is observed in Tajikistan every third Sunday of April to celebrate the achievements of Tajik scientists and the significance of science, technology, and innovation for the country's development. The holiday commemorates the establishment of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, founded on April 14, 1951. Celebrations are coordinated by the Tajik Academy of Sciences and include awards ceremonies, conferences, symposiums, science fairs, and exhibitions, as well as wreath-laying ceremonies at monuments dedicated to notable Tajik scholars such as Sadriddin Ayni and Bobojon Ghafurov. The history of Tajik science dates back to the Persian Empire, with significant development occurring during the Soviet era. In recent years, the government has implemented reforms to enhance the education system and foster scientific development, despite challenges such as centralized research activity and low industrial research output. Tajikistan is also a member of various international organizations that promote economic and scientific cooperation.
