Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD) is observed worldwide on the third Thursday of April. It was established in 2016 by Americans for Medical Research (AMP) to highlight the critical role of animals in biomedical research and to advocate for their humane treatment. The day emphasizes the importance of animal experimentation in advancing medical knowledge, including the development of treatments and the eradication of diseases. Participants, including research institutions, medical and veterinary schools, hospitals, and nonprofit organizations, engage in various educational activities such as community lectures, seminars, and interactive events. These initiatives aim to demonstrate a commitment to excellent animal care and promote the ethical use of animals in research, guided by the principles of Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement. It is important to note that BRAD should not be confused with International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day, which is celebrated on April 15.
