Criminal Investigation Department Employees Day is observed in Ukraine every April 15, commemorating the establishment of the criminal investigation department in the People’s Commissariat of Justice of the Ukrainian SSR in 1919. This professional holiday recognizes the crucial role of criminal investigations, which encompass methods such as search and seizure, interrogations, and evidence collection, collectively known as forensic science or criminalistics. The holiday was officially established by Minister of Internal Affairs Yuriy Kravchenko in 1998 and has been celebrated annually since then. The main tasks of the Criminal Investigation Department include the detection and investigation of crimes, searching for perpetrators, and documenting illegal activities of organized crime. The celebration is initiated by the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, highlighting the importance of protecting the rights and freedoms of individuals living in the country.
