Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Action Day is observed worldwide every April 19. This annual awareness campaign aims to highlight congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a life-threatening birth defect where the diaphragm fails to close completely during development, allowing abdominal organs to enter the chest cavity and hinder lung growth. Approximately 50% of newborns diagnosed with CDH succumb to complications such as pulmonary hypoplasia and pulmonary hypertension. CDH occurs in about 1 in every 2,500 babies, yet research on the condition remains limited, and its causes are largely unknown. On this day, individuals are encouraged to wear the pink, blue, and yellow CDH Awareness Ribbon, participate in awareness events and fundraisers, and volunteer to support educational campaigns about this serious condition.
