Swiss Beer Day, observed throughout Switzerland on the last Friday in April, celebrates the country's rich beer culture and brewing tradition. Established in 2012 by the Swiss Breweries Association (SBV) to mark its 135th anniversary, the day aims to kick off the brewing season. The origins of beer brewing in Switzerland date back to the Gauls and were later reintroduced by Saint Gall after the fall of the Roman Empire. Although beer production stagnated in the 20th century due to market restrictions, the craft beer movement gained momentum in the 1990s. On Swiss Beer Day, breweries across the country host various events such as beer tastings, festivals, and open houses, particularly in the German-speaking regions, where beer consumption is highest. The SBV also organizes events like the Swiss Beer Sommelier Championship and the Swiss Beer Award, highlighting the importance of local brewing.
