National Ferret Day is observed worldwide every April 2 to educate people about domestic ferrets and dispel myths surrounding these intelligent and social animals. The day was created by Carol Roche, a ferret owner from New York City, in collaboration with various ferret organizations, including the American Ferret Association, and was recognized in 2014. Celebrations often involve spending quality time with pet ferrets, buying them treats or toys, scheduling vet checkups, and sharing photos on social media with the hashtags #NationalFerretDay and #FerretDay. For those who do not own ferrets, activities can include learning about the animals, considering adoption, reading books, watching documentaries, or volunteering at local ferret shelters. The United Kingdom also celebrates its own National Ferret Day on May 5, initiated by the Ferret Education Research Trust to promote ferret welfare.
