Israel Memorial Day, also known as Yom HaZikaron, is observed on the 4th of the Hebrew month Iyar, typically falling between April and May in the Western Gregorian calendar. It serves as a national remembrance day in Israel dedicated to honoring fallen Israeli soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation's independence and those who continue to protect it. The observance begins at 8:00 p.m. with a one-minute siren, during which all activities cease, and people stand in silence to pay their respects. Public entertainment venues close from Memorial eve until the following morning, and regular television programming is halted to broadcast the names and ranks of deceased soldiers. Memorial meetings, rallies, and commemorative events are held, and flags are flown at half-mast. In 2010, a new rite called “Songs in their Memory” was introduced, utilizing music to honor the fallen.
