This special non-working holiday commemorates the town's founding anniversary, which dates back to April 21, 1714, when it was established as an independent missionary center by Spanish missionaries. The name "Orani" is believed to have originated from a misunderstanding between a Spanish explorer and a local resident. The day is marked by various festive events, including a special mass at the Minor Basilica and Shrine Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Orani, cultural performances, sports competitions, street dancing, colorful parades, a trade fair, and food festivals. Orani, which has a population of over 70,000, primarily relies on agriculture and aquaculture for its economy, producing rice, coffee, vegetables, and seafood. The holiday was officially established in November 2018 and celebrated for the first time in 2019, highlighting the historical significance of the town's establishment.
